The Gospel according to John
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The
Apostle immediately asserts the divinity of Christ. His
name: the Word. Here is the Word Revealed. He is the
chief subject of the entire Bible (Lu 24:27 And beginning
at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them
in all the scriptures the things concerning himself), the
substance of all shadows, types, and prophecies (Heb 8:
1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the
sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the
right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;).
He is the means and medium of God’s communication to
the world (Heb 1:1,2 God, who at sundry times and in
divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by
the prophets, (2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us
by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by
whom also he made the worlds;). His eternity is shown,
not “from,” but “in,” the beginning, Christ distinct
personality and co-existence with the Father is
confirmed with the statement by referring to Christ’s pre-
incarnate manifestation to the world. The world and the
things that are in the world are not eternal. Natural
reasoning would teach us that there must have been a
first cause or else what we see just popped into being.
Material things are not eternal; however the original
creation was made to last forever. Sin came into the
universe by Lucifer (Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from
heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut
down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!).
Sin came into the world by man (Ro 5:12 Wherefore, as
by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin;
and so death passed upon all men, for that all have
sinned:). God did put a curse all in the Garden of Eden
because of rebellion against His Word. This has lead to
corruption of mankind, contamination of the ground, and
condemning of Lucifer. Creation is slowing down,
growing old, losing its ability to cleanse itself (Heb 1:10-
12 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the
foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works
of thine hands: (11) They shall perish; but thou remains;
and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; (12) And as
a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be
changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not
fail.) God does have a plan to restore man, it is the man
Christ Jesus, God does have a plan to restore creation
(Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for
the first heaven and the first earth were passed away;
and there was no more sea.) God does have a plan for
Lucifer (Satan) (Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived
them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where
the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be
tormented day and night for ever and ever.)
Here, John does not try to prove the existence to God,
he just proclaims, declares Him to be, as did Moses in
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God”. There is no
declaration of time in this phrase; it simply says that God
has always been.
